24. Olinda under the palm trees

Small provincial and silent streets go up in zigzag the slopes of the hill where churches and convents flaunt their baroquestyle belfries amongst undulating palm trees, while an incredibly green sea ruthlessly devours the beach where the jangadas¹ rest, mocking the illusory protection provided by the small stone walls hastily raised by man.
