32. Water towers and old awnings
28,4 x 22,3 cm | Hand-watercolor lithograph
And there are also the water towers and old awnings, in the purest 1900 style. This one I saw, in awe, opening the blinds as I woke up to my first day in Belém, little brother of the Eiffel Tower, with its three reservoirs set on top of an interwoven metal lattice. And what do you think of this other, a more modest one, that oversees the market patio, set upon an iron column, topped by a Chinese hat, surrounded by a cast-iron balcony, to which we access by a spiral staircase, an ideal roost for the vultures that avidly lurk about the butcher shops’ stalls.
