12. The watering trough Paranaguá, old town
22,5 x 30,5 cm | Hand-watercolor lithograph
Old little town which smells a bit of mold and death. Decrepit Sobrados, antique seigniorial homes with rusted balconies, which now accommodate a shoemaker, a carpenter, the seccos e molhados¹ boutique from where violent perfumes of cured meat and dried cod fish escape.
On the square, behind the fish market, an old horse grazes peacefully
on its ration of thick grass. The owner will not be long to come and
hitch it up to the dilapidated tarped wagon, for the shadows are already
descending upon the city and the sky is fading away in a harmony of
violet and pink.
